Software modernisation

Software modernisation and further development

You already have an application that works and that you have invested in for years — but it is starting to age. Components have fallen behind, the look feels dated, updating has become risky and adding new features ever harder. In that situation there is no need to throw everything away and start over.

We modernise the existing application step by step: we swap outdated components and libraries for modern, maintainable ones, bring the interface and experience up to date and add new features. What already works is preserved, while the application becomes faster, safer and more future-proof.

No starting from scratch

We keep what already works and has value. We upgrade incrementally, so the business does not stall and you avoid an expensive rewrite.

Outdated components out

We replace obsolete libraries and components with modern, secure, maintainable ones — fewer vulnerabilities, less technical debt.

A new look and new features

We modernise the UI/UX and build the features your users expect — the application feels new again and works better.

Modernisation, not a rewrite

The most common mistake with ageing software is assuming the only option is to redo everything from scratch. That is usually the most expensive, slowest and riskiest route — months of work that produce no new value and at the end of which something may well break instead. Modernising what exists is usually the smarter move.

We start with an honest review of the application and its code: what is still viable, what needs replacing and where the biggest risk sits. From that we build an incremental plan where every step delivers something tangible — a fresher look, speed, security or a new feature.

Old parts out, new ones in

Every application is made of parts — frameworks, libraries and components — that age over time: they stop being updated, become a security risk or no longer fit a newer environment. We replace them gradually with modern, actively maintained solutions while preserving the functionality your users already know.

In the same pass we tidy the code and reduce technical debt — the mess that accumulates over years and makes every new change slow and risky. The result is an application that is safe and fast to develop further again.

A new look and new possibilities

A dated appearance makes people assume the product behind it is dated too — even when it works well. We modernise the interface and experience: cleaner design, smoother flows and mobile friendliness that match today's expectations. Often a considered refresh is enough to make the application feel new again.

At the same time we build the features your users or your business need. Because we do it on a tidied, modernised foundation, new capabilities are faster to build and more reliable than in the old, patched-together system.

What the work includes

  • Review (audit) of the existing application and code
  • Replacing outdated components and libraries
  • Modernising the user interface and experience (UI/UX)
  • Analysis and development of new features
  • Performance and security improvements
  • Reducing technical debt and tidying the code

Frequently asked questions

Is my application worth upgrading or should it be rebuilt?

Usually it is worth upgrading. A rewrite from scratch is expensive, slow and risky. We review the application first and give an honest assessment — if something really is more sensible to rebuild, we say so directly, but often the existing one can be modernised incrementally at far lower cost and risk.

Can you upgrade an application someone else built?

Yes. We review the existing code and setup, map the situation and tell you what we can do and on what terms. Often the work starts exactly there: taking over and fixing an application built by someone else that has fallen behind.

Will the application be out of service during the upgrade?

It does not have to be. We modernise incrementally, in smaller pieces, so the application stays in use and the business does not stall. Larger changes are tested thoroughly before they go live.

Which technologies do you work with?

We use modern, maintainable solutions (for example React, Next.js, TypeScript) and adapt to the technology of the existing application. We speed the work up with AI tools. The goal is always a secure, fast and future-proof result.
