The book “On the Survival of the Estonian Nation”

We are glad to report that a new book has been completed in cooperation with us. This time under the title “On the Survival of the Estonian Nation”. The client was the Tallinn House of Scientists.

Our contribution to the book was the layout, photo editing and the design of the cover. Naturally we also handled all the communication and coordination with the hard-working team at our long-standing partner, the Tallinn Printing House.

Laying out a collection

When a book contains texts by several authors, the typesetter's first task is to bring them into one form. Every author writes in their own way — different heading levels, different referencing style, different table formats. In the book they all have to behave identically, otherwise the volume feels thrown together.

The second typical task is references and sources. A collection with scholarly or historical content has a great many of them, and their formatting must be consistent throughout and in the right place when pages break.
