The book “The Story of the House Without a House” — the third part

ArborIT OÜ has once again completed a book in the Majata Maja series, whose earlier volumes appeared in 2006 and 2015.

This volume was published in connection with the 55th anniversary of the Tallinn House of Scientists.

ArborIT's work covered the book design and layout and the photo editing.

The client was the Tallinn House of Scientists.

The third part of a series — why consistency matters

When a book is the third part of a series, the layout does not start from a blank page. The new volume has to sit well beside the earlier ones on the shelf: the same format, the same typeface, the same logic for headings and a similar cover language. The reader should see immediately that this is the same series, even when years separate the volumes.

In practice that means going through the earlier editions before laying out the new part and writing down their rules — margins, line spacing, subheading sizes, the placement of photo captions. Only then does the new content start going onto the page.

The same series and the same client

We wrote about the previous part of the series here. Commissioned by the Tallinn House of Scientists, we also laid out the book “On the Survival of the Estonian Nation”.
